ISPE-13
XIII International Symposium on
Polymer Electrolytes
26 - 31 August 2012Selfoss, Iceland
It is with great pleasure that the Organizing Committee of the XIII International Symposium on Polymer Electrolytes announces the ISPE-13 conference in Selfoss, Iceland. The ISPE-13 is focused on polymer electrolytes. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, new synthetic methods, alkaline and acidic ionomers, operando and ex-situ spectroscopic methods of analysis, the structure and function of polymer electrolyte interfaces, neutron reflectivity & scattering, computational modeling and device applications
Since 1987, the ISPE has taken place every two years in the following countries: United Kingdom (St. Andrews, 1987), Italy (Siena, 1989), France (Annecy, 1991), USA (Newport, Road Island, 1994), Sweden (Uppsala, 1996), Japan (Hayama, Kanagawa, 1998), Australia (Noosa, Queensland, 2000), USA (Santa Fe, New Mexico, 2002), Poland (Mragowo, 2004), Brazil (Foz do Iguaçú, 2006), Portugal (Ofir, 2008) and Italy (Padua 2010).
Iceland is the ultimate nature trip. The Icelandic people’s lives are all closely tied to fishing. Most that I have met proudly carry their fishing license at all times. Drinking water comes from pure glaciers and the cattle graze in fields untouched by fertilizer. The island is dotted with lava fields, icecaps, glaciers, hot pools and geysers. Iceland is the home of the oldest parliament (~930 AD) and the oldest European language that has changed little since the days of the Vikings. All of their electricity is geothermal or hydroelectric. It has virtually no industrial pollution. It is an appropriate place for the assembly of scientists and engineers devoted to the development of clean energy and processes.
ISPE-13 will provide a multidisciplinary forum with participants from every continent. The topics will cover the fundamental and applied aspects of polymer electrolytes. Experimental and theoretical studies of their properties, charge transfer mechanisms and interfacial structure and processes will be highlighted, together with the application of these materials in batteries, fuel cells, super capacitors, sensors, actuators, photo-electrochemical devices, microelectronic, biotechnology and environmental remediation. The goal of ISPE-13 is to bring together leading international scientists, engineers, top-level industrial management and business executives to discuss all the aspects of the science, technology and applications of ion-conducting materials.
On behalf of the organizers, it is a pleasure to invite you to participate in the ISPE-13. We look forward to seeing you in Selfoss in 2012.
